Types

The different types of intimate waxes

If you’ve heard the terms Bikini, Hollywood and Brazilian waxing thrown around interchangeably, then you may be confused. But don’t worry – we’re here to clear things up. At House of Beauty, we define our intimate waxing service offerings as Bikini Line, Extended Bikini, Brazilian and Hollywood.

Bikini Line

is a basic tidying. Sometimes a classic bikini wax is all your skin needs to feel soft, fresh and silky smooth. We wax the sides (called your panty line) and across the top. If you’re wearing a bikini, this will prevent any hairs from “peeking out”. Strip wax is used.

Extended Bikini

is the next step. We take a little bit more off the sides (panty line) as well as from your upper thigh. Strip wax is used.

Price: £24

Brazilian

goes from the front, all the way to the back with an added butt strip. We leave a neat “landing strip”, triangle or square in the front, it’s up to you! We use a combination wax method which is strip wax and hot wax.

Hollywood

is House of Beauty’s most popular treatment and is perfect for a completely nude look. If you want to be totally hairless from hip to hip, it’s time for a Hollywood wax. We use a combination wax method which is strip wax and hot wax.

5 reasons you'll love getting your bikini area waxed

Getting your bikini area waxed by a professional can truly be a “treat yourself” moment. Most Clients find themselves more pleased with the results of waxing than other temporary hair removal options like shaving, epilation, and hair removal creams. Our top five benefits include:

1. Skin Health

Not only does waxing remove hair, it’s a physical exfoliation that removes lifeless surface skin cells. This means you’re receiving hair removal and skincare all in one.

2. Smoother Skin

Bear in mind that you are removing hair from the root and exfoliating the skin. So after a wax, you’ll probably find that your skin is now among the smoothest things in your life.

3. Longer-lasting Results

Since your hair is being removed by the root, it will take much longer to grow back than with shaving.

4. Thinner and Finer Hair

When your hair does grow back after waxing, it will grow back weaker, making it finer, softer and more sparse. Win-win!

5. Minimal Irritation

Many people find hair removal methods like epilation and hair removal creams irritating to the skin. However, waxing rarely causes this problem if it’s done by a licensed professional.

Preparation

Get wax ready

For your waxing appointment, your hair should be at least a ¼ inch long (about the length of a grain of rice). This will allow the wax to grip around the hair. If it is your first time waxing, then we recommend you refrain from shaving for at least two weeks before your reservation. After your first wax, it is recommended to wax every three to four weeks. Then go home and throw your razors away, because you’ll never have to shave again.

Our top 6 Dos and Don’ts of bikini waxing

DO

Relax. Breathe. Find your special place. Think about an awesome meal you had. Pretend you’re on a beach with your favorite celeb. The more relaxed you are, the better the waxing appointment experience will be.
Inform your therapist of any medications you are taking. These include antibiotics or topical creams you’re using, which may not be compatible with waxing.
Wear comfortable cotton panties to avoid irritation if it’s your first time receiving a bikini wax. They don’t have to be cute, but hey, it couldn’t hurt.

DON'T

Tan the area you plan to wax 24 to 48 hours before appointment.
Consume alcohol or significant amounts of caffeine before your bikini wax reservation. Both can cause your pores to tighten, resulting in a more uncomfortable experience. Save the partying for afterwards.
Use any numbing creams. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but they do not penetrate the skin.

What to expect before and during our bikini waxing services, step by step

BEFORE

The Arrival

There is ample and free parking available adjacent to our salon. You do not need to worry about finding a spot and navigating multi-story car parks. When you arrive at a House of Beauty, you’ll be greeted by one of our friendly staff. You’ll wait in the reception area where your therapist will come out to greet you. Then she will lead you into one of our private treatment rooms. All of our friendly therapists are licensed professionals. They are also required to successfully complete our in-house training program to ensure that Clients receive the same level of excellence from every therapist.

Disrobing

Your therapist will ask you to remove your clothes from the waist down before hopping on the bed. This allows the therapist to work without interruption and also prevents wax from getting on your undergarments or clothing. Don’t be shy – you look great.

DURING

1. Cleansing

First, we cleanse the area to remove any makeup, oils or lotions that may reduce the quality of your wax from taking place.

2. Protection

Next, we protect the skin with our soothing pre-wax oil.

3. Waxing

Then, it’s time for your bikini wax. At House of Beauty, we use a unique wax combination technique. Strip wax works best for the sides and inside thighs, while hot wax is used for the intimate areas. The hot wax is applied at a warm, luxurious bath water temperature. However, we know that everyone’s skin sensitivity is different. Therefore, we highly recommend that you make your therapist aware of any discomfort if you feel the wax is too warm. Hot wax quickly cools and then hardens after application onto the skin. The wax itself is then removed without the use of a cloth strip.

4. Rejuvenation

Finally, we rejuvenate the area by applying oil to sooth the skin.

How painful is a bikini wax?

Pain during your bikini wax appointment will be dependent on your mindset. It will also depend on your general tolerance for discomfort, and whether or not you stay on schedule. Everyone is different, but we will try our best to keep your mind off of the pain.

Additionally, once you’re done with your bikini wax, your therapist will provide you with some after waxing home care tips. Bikini waxing service times depend on a number of factors, but most of our Clients are in and out within 15 to 30 minutes.

Aftercare

After your first Bikini or Brazilian wax

Your first bikini wax removes the majority of hair that has grown above the skin. Because hairs grow in different cycles, your subsequent bikini waxes will remove the hairs that were still growing below the skin’s surface but have now sprouted above the skin. After three to four bikini waxes, all of your hairs should be growing in the same cycle, resulting in longer lasting smooth skin.

Consistency pays off

Once your first bikini wax is out of the way, every bikini wax gets easier and easier as long as you don’t shave. If you shave, the next bikini wax will likely feel just like the first. Additionally, shaving between waxes can make you susceptible to itching, or worse… ingrown hairs. Plus, shaving is just irritating and time-consuming. So put the razor down!

How long should hair be for my next bikini wax?

We recommend getting waxed once your hair has grown to be at least a ¼ inch long. Usually your bikini wax will last from three to four weeks, but everyone’s rate of re-growth is different so results will vary between Clients. But remember, with the right after wax care and products, you can help your skin stay smoother, longer. Just ask your therapist to point you in the right direction.

Sex after bikini waxing?

We recommend that you wait 24 to 48 hours to give your skin time to heal and allow hair follicles to close. This will prevent any further skin irritation.

Tanning after bikini waxing?

Tan, beautiful skin looks amazing, but we recommend waiting 24 to 48 hours after a wax before tanning. The freshly waxed skin is susceptible to sun damage if exposed too soon. If you need to go in the sun, thoroughly apply sunscreen to the waxed area.

5 possible side effects of bikini waxing and how to treat them

Redness after bikini waxing

This will disappear over time. You can be red from a few minutes to a few days depending on your skin sensitivity and how your skin handles the wax.

Itching after waxing

We know it’s going to be tempting, but try really, really hard not to scratch those freshly waxed areas. Because the skin will be new and sensitive, you must be careful not to cause further irritation by scratching. Try to help soothe the area by using an aloe vera gel. View our products to learn more.

Bumps after waxing

Some bumps are a result of post wax irritation and will go away on their own within a few hours to a few days. To help calm your skin, you can use our Serum to help soothe and treat any ingrown hairs, bumps or breakouts.

Ingrown hairs after bikini waxing

To prevent ingrown hairs or further skin irritation, we recommend that you use Lycon Ingrown-X-IT Solution which mildly exfoliates, decongests and helps minimise the appearance and discomfort of ingrown hairs. It also soothes red spots and moisturises.

Stubble after waxing

If you’ve just gotten waxed and are already seeing a “5 o’clock shadow,” just know that our hairs grow in different cycles. It’s possible that the hairs just below the skin’s surface have sprouted after your wax service, resulting in a stubbly feel. Moisturising daily between services is a must; dry or brittle hair can easily break during a bikini or Brazilian wax service. But don’t worry, just go with the flow – allow these hairs to grow so that we can remove them next time we see you.

Turned up and the place is very welcoming and clean. Had an Aromatherapy massage which was really fantastic and Katie Korakod knows what she is doing. I now feel relaxed and more straight! I’ve reached out to Nuchido about ten times since last week trying to secure a refund, yet all I received were automated, scripted replies with no follow-up phone calls. It’s been incredibly frustrating to feel completely ignored despite my repeated efforts to get in touch.

The customer service here is severely lacking. Instead of addressing my concerns directly, every interaction has felt impersonal and dismissive. It’s disappointing to see a company not standing behind its product, especially when issues arise.

On top of that, after using the product, I experienced a severe migraine—the worst I’ve ever had—along with intense stomach cramping that persisted throughout the day. These adverse reactions not only ruined my day but also made me question the safety and quality of what’s being offered.

If you’re considering Nuchido, I strongly urge you to proceed with extreme caution. A company that can’t provide proper support or take responsibility for its product should be a major red flag. Based on my experience, I wouldn’t recommend risking your health or your money with this product.

Overall, this has been a deeply disappointing and stressful experience. I’m sharing my story in hopes that others will be forewarned and avoid the headache—both literally and figuratively—that I’ve endured.

She’s the best. I’ve been getting filler since I was 18 but have always been very cautious with who I see. When I started my filler journey it was challenging finding good people local to me. Therefore I would travel to London, see a dr and spend a lot of money. Anna is an extremely knowledgeable and professional beautician. Since she started my B12 injections (after the NHS said my blood tests were normal which they weren’t), my energy has increased steadily. I book online and pop in once or twice a week. Always prompt with no waiting. I initially went for Botox as (to be honest) she was cheaper but her accuracy with the needle and the results were better than anywhere else I’d been so I’ve continued. If Anna were based in Ascot, for example, she could/would probably charge a lot more. Highly recommend.
